Trieste has a busy calendar of events throughout the year, offering endless things to do and experience. These include musical concerts, sports events, cultural and traditional festivals, and fairs. The highlight of these is Trieste's main film festival, which is held annually in January.

• Trieste Film Festival - a celebration of cinema from Central Eastern Europe and beyond. As well as writers, actors and film directions, the festival attracts thousands who come to see 150 feature films, short films and documentaries screened every year in January

• Habitat – mid-February, a furniture and ideal home exhibition which attracts thousands of visitors and over 100 exhibitors

• La Bavisela - the European Marathon, as it's also known, is one of Trieste's major sports events. This top marathon attracts elite racers. A non-competitive marathon is also staged, as well as a scenic walk. Together, the three events attract over 9,000 participants
